The Old Kingdom fell through a combination of poor leadership and drought conditions. Due to climate change, the Nile river was particularly dry for a long period of time. This drought hurt Egypt. While Egypt had faced droughts before, this one was particularly bad as the pharaoh at the time, Pepy II was in his 80s at this point and was unable to properly face the challenge. After his death, no strong leadership came, leading to the Old Kingdom’s downfall.
