Director Henry McRae's film The Werewolf, the silent 18-minute film short (and "lost film), was loosely based on Henri Beaugrand's 1898 novel The Werewolves and was the first known film to feature the eponymous classic horror character. All prints were supposedly destroyed in a Universal Film Manufacturing Co. fire in 1924.
