Hunter Education Commission - Objectives

Primary goal is to investigate the state of primary education in India, but the commission also decided to investigate secondary and higher education in India.

Recommendations

Improvement of primary education, and that primary education should be imparted in vernacular.

To transfer the control of primary education to newly formed district and municipal boards.

Private parties were to establish secondary schools with funds provided by the government and to discourage missionary schools against Indian participation in this process.

Secondary school curricula were also revised, with academic and vocational courses being divided into various branches

To pay special attention to the advancement of girls and women's education.


William Wilson Hunter wrote
"The Annals of Rural Bengal" and
"A Comparative Dictionary of the Non-Aryan Languages of India,"

but his most famous work is

"The Imperial Gazetteer of India"
