1. Pilgrims - mainly want to separate completely from the church of england
2. Supposed to land In Virginia, but blown off course and landed in Massachusetts (landed 6 weeks before winter)
3. Mayflower compact (first written frame work in US)- Bound themselves to follow “just and equal laws” that there chosen representative would frame up
4. 1/2 died before winter was out, but 1/2 survived because of the help of Squanto and the local Indians
5. Indians taught them how to plant corn and hunt fish
