The first steps towards nuclear disarmament
• After the possible nuclear war, both superpowers decided to limit the development of nuclear weapons
• On 5 Aug 1963, the USA, Soviet Union and Britain signed the Limited Test Ban Treaty which prohibited nuclear testing except testing conducted underground
• This was to slow down the arms race and to limit the radiation fallout on the earth’s atmosphere
