This act put a ban on Chinese immigration to the US. Racial tensions were high, and it was believed that Chinese laborers were stealing the jobs of Americans, so, by the demand of workers, the act was passed. This act shows how widespread racism was. Even other immigrants were discriminated against people outside of their race.
