A short time after Richard Pendravis and his Tories killed Patriot Capt James Doharty, he was preparing to depart for St Augustine, Florida, a Tory safe haven. The moment of his departure at the landing, he and his friend Patterson were killed by Patriot Lt John Leacroft, one of Capt Doharty's nephews. Lt Leacroft survived the war living out his life on his plantation on Hilton Head Island.
