Waton, Defender of Marxism, Rouses 3,000 at Discussion Refereed by Clare Sheridan. RED RULE CALLED FAILURE Seligman Says Russia Has Reverted to Medieval Anarchy—Cites Paper Money Flood.
A discussion between Professor Edward R.A. Seligman of Columbia University and Harry Waton, Educational Director of the Marx-Engels Institute, on the question: "Has Russia Proved Marxism Wrong?" with Clare Sheridan, the sculptress, as Chairman, was held in the Manhattan Opera House yesterday before 3,000 persons.
"Enthusiasm reached its high pitch when Mr. Waton declared: " Once the proletariat system has started it will not stop until it has brought the whole world to communism." Several times the audience interrupted the addresses with applause, despite the injunction of the Chairman. When Mr. Waton had finished there was a prolonged demonstration, with three cheers for "The Russian Government."
