In the Summer of 1862, Things were bad for the Dakota on the reservation. On august 17th Dakota men killed 5 settlers and then convinced Little Crow to go to war. On August 18th the dakota attack the Lower Sioux agency, killing traders and government employees. Most Dakota do not fight the ones that do are mostly young men.
