She is taken into the care of Rupert and Lindsay Matthews. He is the vicar of their local parish and lives in Rectory in North Creake. He was one of her parents’ closest friends and they left him guardianship of Emily (and Mary) in their wills. Rupert and Lindsay have children already: Lorraine (six years old), Luke (four years old) and Isabelle (1 year old).
