Of the hundreds of Dakota who surrendered or captured during the US and Dakota war. Only 303 are convicted for killing and doing bad things to civilians. Abraham Lincoln (the president) sentences 264 Dakotas to a less severe sentence. Lincoln then orders 39 men to be sent to the gallows. One prisoner is saved just before the hanging starts. The other 38 men are hanged, the largest mass execution in US history.
