She travels to the US to perform in the Ziegfeld Follies to try and become an established performer in her home country. She receives a racist and hostile reaction and goes back to France. She marries French industrialist Jean Lion and is a citizen.

When WWII started, she worked for the Red Cross and the Free French forces, performing in Africa and the Middle East. She would smuggle messages in her sheet music and even her underwear.
