The Code of Hammurabi is one of the earliest and most notorious set of written laws in history. This set of laws was established by King Hammurabi in approximately 1772 BCE in Ancient Mesopotamia. The code consisted of 282 laws, many of which are seen as controversial today. The issues the code addresses include slavery, crime, punishment, marriage, etc. The most famous idea from this code of laws is "an eye for an eye" as a form of punishment or revenge. This code influenced many other legal systems all over the world.
