The whaler Emma sailed to Bouvetoya at the start of the whaling season for the Nyberg Brothers oil company. Emma successfully hunts almost 300 whales during the year. Later returns almost dead by hypothermia and before he died, he witnessed a predator fight an alien in the mess hall.
