4 май 1961 г. - Freedom Rides Protests
Описание:
In 1960, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in the case of Boynton v. Virginia that states could not segregate bus and rail stations used by interstate travelers, but, state and local officials in the South refused to comply with the ruling, and the federal government failed to enforce it. In 1961, CORE organized a series of nonviolent protests to compel the federal government to enforce the Boynton decision. Called Freedom Rides, these protests involved citizens of all races riding buses together across the Deep South. As a result, many of the protestors faced violence.
