With more progressive reforms implemented by Gorbachev and pressure for border change, East Berlin announces that on November 9th, 1989, citizens would be free to travel between West and East Berlin. By midnight of November 9th, over 2 million East German citizens flooded the gates and entered West Berlin. This event is significant because it is loosened Soviet influence and control in Berlin.
