Background- After serving for some time in the Nation of Islam as a minister, X was offered a documentary deal on the organization and it's effort. After much deliberation, partly due to the fact that the producer of the show was white, the Nation decided that the costs were outweighed by the benefits. In 1959, the documentary aired, revealing exactly what the organization had been weary of. The documentary depicted the Nation as a shocking organization which denounced whites and teaching children a history far different from what most American history programs taught.

Conclusion- This was a major blow to the Nation of Islam and their movement as it caused suspicion and fear into Americans as they questioned the true intention of the organization. A common fear among whites was if young black children were being trained to hate whites. This impact would stick with the organization furthermore as X would make statements that affiliated the white man with the devil, tarnishing the reputation further.
