Vladimir Lenin was one of the most important figures in the Russian revolution and leader of the Bolshevik party. He led this group of Bolsheviks until World War I when he went into exile again, but not for long. Seeing Russia as weak and desperate after the Great War, Lenin seized his opportunity. He saw that the provisional government was weak and that the people were tired of being poor and hungry. He held a coup d’etat known as the October revolution in 1917 and took control of the government. This day was quite essential in the revolution and for him, for this secured the Communist party as the new government and secured Lenin's power. For the next four years he was faced with a civil war with his red government against other small groups. He would win this war and gain control of Russia. He held control over the country until he died on January 21, 1924. The date that Lenin took over Russia was the largest way that he influenced the revolution. This took power from Kerensky and the provisional government and completely changed everything. It gave power back to the Bolsheviks and to Lenin.
