This was Vladimir Lenin’s secret police force tasked with protecting Lenin’s power after the revolution of October 1917. It was created on December 20, 1917. This was very important, for as of this day, there was no more transparency in the Russian government. This meant that Vladimir Lenin now had secret police able to enforce his views and policies for him. There was secret and political killing now, creating an even more powerful and restrictive government. This group's job was to eliminate those who were seen as enemies of the revolution and as enemies of the government. This process and time was known as the “Red Terror.” This group consisted mostly of Bolsheviks. Not only was its job to eliminate enemies of the state, but it was also tasked with ensuring that no one hoarded their food and finding any people who had abandoned their military post. Created by Vladimir Lenin to enforce his policy and prevent any uprisings, this group was eventually dissolved on February 6, 1922 when it was replaced.
