27 янв 1897 г. - The Women's Institutes
Описание:
Although many women by the 1900s were joining the workforce, most women - no matter what class of society - were also working as mother and wives. In 1889, Adelaide Hoodless's 14-month-old son John died of meningitis from drinking contaminated milk, as during this period most milk was not pasteurized. Many women unknowingly gave their family members contaminated milk, which caused many deaths.
In 1897, Hoodless founded the first Women's Institute. This was a place which educated women about domestic science. In the early 1900s, more than 500 Women's Institutes were established across Canada. Colleges and special branches of universities also opened all over the country to teach domestic sciences to women
