Kennedy announced publicly in a news Conference that the Soviet Union had built Offensive missile cites in Cuba. This led to a time of extended tension and threats. This was the closest the Cold war became to getting hot. Luckily the two sides came to an agreement and avoided conflict or nuclear war.
