Erie Canal- created a water route between New York City and Buffalo, New York.
The National Road- Constructed with tax money from protective tariffs ran east to west. Benefited the North, frustrated the South

Railroad expansion was important because Eastern manufactured goods could be more easily transported to the west. This led to economic growth.
