Shortly after the U.S. joins, Russia decided to leave the war behind them and focus on ongoing problems within their own country. Russia wanted out because of the man who came to power, who overthrew the last guy in charge during the ongoing revolution, promised, "peace, land, and bread", so they signed a peace treaty with Germany. This treaty in short read, we get to the leave the war and you get around 30% of our territory. This ended their involvement in WWI, but it didn't make peace in their country. This decision meant that France and Britain had lost a power ally, however luckily they had just gained a new one, the U.S., who wasn't dealing with a current revolution to distract them from the world cause. So it was probably for the better that Russia got out when they did.
