In Roman Egypt, Claudius Ptolemaeus, also known as Ptolemy, attempted to figure out the orbital motion of Mars. He proposed the new order of the planets, by increasing distance: the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Sun, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and the fixed stars.
