After years of using MGH, Johnny Storm's ability to regulate his unnatural mutant expression degrades, causing him to unleash a torrent of fire at a packed performance, seriously harming many. Investigation by Sue showed that his genetic structure had begun to fall apart, and there was nothing that could be done to save him. Reed offers to send Johnny into the Quantum Realm, to the same coordinates where they received their powers, in the hopes that it would stabilize his condition. Opening the Quantum Tunnel, they sent Johnny through, where he was exposed to cosmic particles and stabilized him. However, it stabilized him in his fire form, not allowing him to return to normal.
