Had previously handled £1 million contract for Bell's takeover, for which they had run "some seriously negative ads".

Old friend from the Thatcher campaign Gordon Reece handled the PR: "He was my best friend, so, over the years, he and I did all sorts of things together, with clients in common."

It was a campaign run on "appeals to nationalism and emotion" -- "had nothing to do with economics" -- real racist element to it.

Bell also during this time does some work for Distillers "on how to defend themselves": "It's neither the first nor the last time in my life when I've worked both sides of an argument."
