Johnny Depp's high-profile lawyer, whose former clients include Kim Kardashian and Megan Fox, has said his now estranged wife Amber Heard is claiming she was a victim of domestic abuse for financial gain in the couple's divorce.

Laura Wasser, his attorney, claimed 30-year-old Heard is 'attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse,' according to court documents, US Weekly reported.

In a written response to the court, Wasser also said Heard's request for a temporary restraining order and financial support 'appears to be in response to the negative media attention she received earlier this week'.

Depp's mother died three days before Heard filed for divorce on Monday.

Heard is seeking spousal support, but Depp's response to her declaration of petition for a restraining order, filed on Wednesday, asked the judge to deny the request.

'Amber is a successful model and actress who earns her own income and is capable of supporting herself,' Wasser said.

On Friday, Depp, 52, was ordered to stay away from Heard after she accused the Alice Through the Looking Glass actor of repeatedly hitting her during a recent fight and leaving her face bruised.

A photograph of Heard smiling with friends hours after Depp allegedly launched an iPhone at her face emerged on Friday, but was deleted before she appeared in court filing for a domestic violence restraining order.

Heard claimed cocaine and booze turned Depp into a violent monster, and in court documents she states she was the victim of multiple domestic incidents during their marriage.

She said she 'lived in fear' of the Pirates of the Caribbean star and the idea he could return to the L.A. condominium they shared to 'terrorize me physically and emotionally'.

But sources connected to Depp have told TMZ Amber is lying and point to Instagram where Heard was tagged in a picture with Amanda de Cadenet and model Amber Valletta at de Cadenet's birthday party on Sunday, the day after he allegedly attacked her.

The actresses' hair covered the areas of her face which appeared to have been bruised the day before. The photograph was posted on Instagram by British TV show host de Cadenet on Monday. But it has since been deleted.

Heard and her lawyer Samantha Spector appeared at the Superior Court of California County of Los Angeles on Friday, where she filed for a domestic violence restraining order.

In her petition, seen by DailyMail.com, Heard said: 'Johnny has a long-held and widely acknowledged public and private history of drug and alcohol abuse. He has a short fuse.

'He is often paranoid and his temper is exceptionally scary for me as it has proven many times to be physically dangerous and/or life threatening to me.'
