The Earth Expedition Ship Rickshaw was assigned to oversee the final years of the terraforming of Oceania before the arrival of the Frontier colony ship, but an unexpected meteor strike against the expedition ship caused it to crash into the surface of the planet, exploding with hundreds of megatons of explosive power which completely fried the continent of Kiloton, the event of its namesake.
