Johnny Depp and director Tim Burton discussed how the movie came about.

Johnny explained it was his idea to take a bite out of the franchise in the first place and said: 'I'd always been sorted of attracted to horror films and stuff like that even when I was a very young kid. And I said to Tim: 'We should do a vampire movie together.'

Burton added: 'I could see right away that he had a passion for it.'
