The Missouri Compromise is were the state of Missouri was brought into the U.S. in result of the Louisiana Purchases. Going in as a slave state, this made the slave and free state balance unequal. So in result, a new state called Maine enter the U.S. which made it equal again. So to resolve this balance, a border line called the 36/30 line was created. This stated that if any new state were to enter the U.S. above the line, they have to become a free state.
