In 1980, Apple released the Apple III, a business-focused computer that was supposed to compete with the increasing threat of IBM and Microsoft because the Apple III was released one year before IBM released its IBM PC. Technical failures and other problems with the machine resulted in recalls and damage to Apple's reputation.
