This is a condenser microphone, commonly used on overheads, strings, snare drum (with pad) and piano etc. The Mic was released in around 1969 and for the polarity pattern I think you could change the head of the mic which are called capsules, for example the AKG Acoustics CK-1 is a cardioid capsule and the CK-2 is omnidirectional.
