The procedure, sponsored by Anodyne, occurred at some point within the 1980's. While often unsuccessfully, occasionally a patient would be able to communicate via a Stephen Hawking-esque DOS speech synthesizer. However, the procedure was enormously expensive.Research on the subject was given to the Government in 2008 after Anodyne was dissolved, but no FOIA requests have come to fruition.
