Angry white men would beat up young men of color, usually Mexican, under the lie of it being what they were wearing. These angry white guys would say, "look at their suits, they have a lot of cloth, why don't i have cloth", and attack them. The true cause was racism and fear of Mexican youth. This may have been partly because of the Sleepy Lagoon murder, a trial where tons of Mexican youth were held in jail for the murder of another mexican man, even though there was no evidence to prove any of them were guilty. Never the less, this caused a ton of white people to get scared, perhaps, and have more reason to act out their racism.
