Griphook had to take Skele-Gro after leaving Malfoy Manor. He had been imprisoned there by the Death Eaters when they were trying to find Harry Potter and the others against Lord Voldemort. During the escape that was orchestrated by house elf Dobby, the goblin's legs were injured and the potion helped his legs regain strength.
