The term MOOC is coined to represent massive open online courses. These courses were first introduced in 2006, but became very popularly by 2012 with over 1.5 million people enrolled in one of the top three course providers. This form of learning emphasizes open-access to knowledge with pre-recorded lectures and content with one of the big emphases being free access to learning and skill development.
