As a condition of Missouri's statehood, no further slaves could be imported into the state and all children born after Missouri's admission to the Union shall be free at the age of 25

• Banned slavery in Lousiana Territory
• Passed House, failed in Senate
• Foreshadows increasing sectionalism (restriction of interest to a narrow sphere; undue concern with local interests or petty distinctions at the expense of general well-being.)
• Scares South – federal government's first attempt to regulate slavery
