the astarans have invaded, and the clans aren't happy
high king atkins calls for battle right after the astarans invade, but they fail horribly and retrieve back to the highlands
aileen márgairn lost three of her brothers, and she's now the sole heir to her entire clan. she has a husband, but they haven't been able to get pregnant yet, and when he dies in battle, too, she decides to put on the big boy pants and leads her clan to war when everyone else had given up
she gives new hope to the people, and she even marches into battle herself
in the summer of 967, she's captured by the astarans and paraded through the astaran capital, cleverly called astare, where she's stripped naked and humiliated and eventually executed by brazen bull, which is basically being pushed inside a metal bull (or in this case just a metal cage) and then they light a fire underneath u and u cook alive
she's remembered as the thistle queen and is a very famous historical figure in highlander history, and she's oftetimes used as a symbol of hope and resistance
every rebellion since has payed homage to her by flying her flag, the blue flag with a white thistle
