Despite accelerating muslim conversion rate, Abbasid declines because it is simple too large to be controlled. Governments kept breaking away, cutting the flow of taxes to Baghdad. Abbasid purchases Mamluks (Turkish slaves) to establish an army. Effective, but expensive, and when they could not get payed they took over the govt. itself, establishing Samarra as the capital.
