11 март 2011 г. - earthquake and tsunami leading to Fukushima meltdown
Описание:
On March 11th, 2011, a 9.0 magnitude earthquake hit Japan. This left the Fukushima reactor unstable but operable. Then following, came a 15-foot tsunami that broke down the cooling system leading to a devastating meltdown. This accident is considered the second-worst nuclear accident, behind Chernobyl. This started with the earthquake, causing the cooling systems to fail. Then after the tsunami, even though the power to the reactors was successfully shut off, there was still enough energy to cause the meltdown of all three reactors. This led to the release of massive amounts of radiation. Shortly after the tsunami, there was also a build-up of hydrogen gas which led to multiple explosions. People working on the reactors were pumping loads of seawater and other cooling liquids into what was left of the reactors to try to settle them. Then later a no-fly zone was declared within a 15-mile radius of the accident. There continued to be explosions for a few days after. Anyone remotely near the plant was evacuated.
