Similar to SALT, this was a treaty signed by the US and the USSR to limit nuclear weaponry. Both sides agreed to withdraw or destroy all missiles that had intermediate-range capabilities (62-3,420 miles), especially those with nuclear warheads, and to stop testing or developing such devices to stop the arms race. This was a big step in relations between Gorbachev and Reagan's relationship and the end of the Cold War. Trump recently backed out of it on grounds that Russia had not upheld its end of the treaty and that China, who wasn't a signatory, could become more powerful than both of them and upset MAD.
