1 ноя 1860 г. - The cattle frontier
Описание:
The land from Texas to Canada had economic potential. There were cattle in Texas that were rounded up by mexican cowboys. About 5 million cattle roam freely in Texas. Both the grass and cattle were free so the cattle business was easy to get into. Joseph McCoy built the first stock yars and cattle were sold for 30 to 50 dollars per head. The cowboys received a dollar a day for their work that was risky. Overgrazing destroyed grass and the winter blizzards and droughts killed 90 percent of cattle. Homesteaders used barbed wire to cut off the area for the cattle to roam.
