1 янв 1750 г. - The Family: Men, Women(CUL, NAT)

Описание:

Due to a substantial food supply and a rapidly expanding economy many people in the colonies married at a younger age and made more children than Europe this led to the family becoming an economic and social center of colonial life. The colonies were very patriarchal, most men worked and provided for the family, they had control of politics and landowning and English law gave men so much power that they had the right to beat their wives if they pleased. On the other hand, the women in the colonies had an average of 8 babies per colony and would typically have household tasks to do. This included cooking, cleaning, making clothes, and providing medical care. They were also in charge of educating the children and they also usually worked next to a man on their land and although divorce was legal it was very rare and looked down upon.
