That morning the party wakes to find de Mendoza gone, and Larkin groaning in pain in his tent. Leo goes into de Mendoza’s tent and finds the Mirror, seeing horrific visions. He leaves it there. Sven goes in after failing to track de Mendoza, has a few visions. Jackson Elias is with him, and confirms that the visions were real.

Meanwhile Petunia goes to Larkin’s tent. She sees the tattoo and the weirdness. Maggie and Clarence follow, and have an awkward conversation where Larkin tries to pass off his heroin addiction and ignore awkward questions about the tattoo. He mentions he got it from the Kikuya.

The party proceeds, Sven now carrying the Mirror. They come across the farmer and his son. Maggie manages to talk with the farmers, calming them down enough for James to first aid the son. They warn them about the other two kharisiri, and wish them well on their way.
The party sets down for the night. Immediately after everyone goes to bed Sven looks at the Mirror and has a series of visions, but he rolls well enough to activate the Contact Nyarlathotep. Nyar speaks with him, and when Sven asks his name he gives every name but Nyarlathotep. Sven awakens and Becomes a Believer, ranting in Old Norse about the sky and darkness. He gains the Darkness Mania.
Leo comes over to help, covering the Mirror and Ward and flinging them outside the tent. Sven swipes away the lantern Leo brought and stamps on it, lighting the tent on fire.
Clarence alone sees de Mendoza go over and try to pick up the sheet holding the ward and mirror, but flinch away. He asks “what’s going on” then when Leo tells him to get a drink from Maggie he gruffly walks over. When de Mendoza reaches Maggie’s tent she holds a bottle of everclear and just says take it.
Meanwhile Clarence has come over. Leo quietly gives Clarence the artifacts, while Sven finally recovers from his bout of madness. Clarence goes back to his tent. When Leo tells Sven what he’s done, Sven immediately runs to Clarence’s tent.

Meanwhile Clarence, having heard the screams from other people who looked at the Mirror, gags himself so he won’t alert anyone. He looks at the Mirror and sees a few visions, then pushes a roll and Contacts Nyarlathotep. He asks Nyar what the meaning of everything is, what is true, and Nyar is amused. He shows Clarence the vision of the mountain in full, and when it is done says “see you soon.”
Clarence awakes to see Sven whip open his tent flap. Leo is right behind. They have a confrontation, loudly revealing that they are trying to keep something from being seen. Finally Leo talks some sense and convinces Clarence to give him the Mirror, Sven takes the Ward.

Rattled by the events, Clarence joins Maggie and Jackson Elias by the fire for a drink or two. Sven sits awake in his tent listening, and at one point hears Larkin coughing, de Mendoza walking over, and then walking back to his tent after Larkin’s coughs subside. The night is quiet, and chill, and some sleep.
