Nativism: Quota laws; Sacco and Vanzetti Trial (POL, CUL) – When the war ended, there is a resurgence of immigrants coming into United States as well as resurgence of nativism. Many Americans were afraid that immigrants were going to come and steal their jobs or that they were going to make America worse. Congress took legal action by putting in place quota laws. These quota laws limited immigration as well as other discriminatory policies to keep immigrants out of the United States. These quota laws were set against immigrants of Asian ethnicity, eastern and southern European ethnicity and “undesirable” ethnicities. This movement was pushed by the nativists. The case of Sacco and Vanzetti trial was in 1921. Two Italian immigrants were put on trial for robbery and murder. They were sentenced to death even though many people believe that they were not to blame. The evidence against them was weak and relatively nonexistent, But many nativists and prejudiced people believe that it was the two Italian men because they were Italian.
