Magadha was the first kingdom in the Indian
subcontinent.

Several factors contributed to the phenomenal rise
of Magadha compared to its contemporaries.
It includes:-

Competent and ambitious rulers,
Favourable geographical location,
Strong economical base,
Availability of resources and

A relatively open society.
Favourable geographical location,

It was the major reason behind the economic
prosperity of Magadha.
Magadha was located in the Middle Gangetic plain,
which was immensely fertile.
The Capital Pataliputra was surrounded by river such

as Ganga, Gandak and Son, and made it as a Water-
Fort (jaladurga).


Magadha was ruled by three dynasties. They are:-

Haryanka dynasty
Shishunaga dynasty
Nanda dynasty

The main rulers include – Bimbisara, Ajathasatru,
Shishinaga and Mahapadma Nanda were highly
enterprising and ambitious.
