This was a strike in relation to the orders given by Carnegie Steel (Henry Clay Frick) that the workers could come back to interview for a job but, without being a part of a labor union. This led to a strike with violent ends. Fighting broke out with Frick even calling in the Pinkertons to deal with the strikers yet the strikers attacked them capturing them and eventually gave them back to Frick. For the time being the workers held control of the Steel mill but, that was wuickly ended when the Frick called for the state militia which sent in 8,500 troops ending the strike and returning the mill to Frick.
