U.S Supreme CourtSummary: Edward Garner, age 15, was fatally shot by officer Elton Hymon under the suspicion that Garner was fleeing a home he had burglarized. Officer Hymon presumed Garner to be unarmed. Garner’s father sued under the belief that Garner’s death was an unconstitutional seizure of his life under the Fourth Amendment.
Decision: Deadly force employed to stop a fleeing felon is a violation of the Fourth Amendment.
