Jackson saw banks as corrupt and only benefited the rich. To correct this, Jackson had committed himself to getting rid of the Bank of the United States. During this bank war, Jackson had used his ability to veto to veto the bank recharter. This use of the veto had upset many and began to think he was abusing his power, some going as far as to comparing him to a king. This comparison can also be backed up as Jackson began to change his cabinet members so that it would be made up of only people that agreed with him or choose to bend to his will.
Importance—This led to the death of the second Bank of the United States and led to bitter political debates during the coming election.
Connection—With maintain his image as the common man, Jackson goes against the bank as a way to show common Americans that he, too, did not trust the banks and rich people who backed them.
