The whole town is surrounded by a ring-shaped rampart, which emphasizes the character of the border town.
City in the forest. It becomes physical environment for a virtuous, ideal society. During this period, Jean Jacques Rousseau, a philosopher who greatly influenced Ledoux's thinking, proclaimed the return to nature. In architecture, this means a return to the beginnings - to antiquity.
